Poetic Life

Internal Harmony

Some Scripture considerations:-

Ps 133:1 See how good and how pleasing it is for brothers to be living together in harmony!

Rom 12:16 Be in harmony with one another. Do not have a high opinion of yourselves, but be in agreement with common people. Do not give yourselves an air of wisdom.

Rom 15:5 Now may the God who gives comfort and strength in waiting make you of the same mind with one another in harmony with Christ Jesus:

2 Cor 13:14 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the harmony of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

Eph 4:3 Taking care to keep the harmony of the Spirit in the yoke of peace.

End thoughts from Gordon MacDonald's book Ordering your private world:-

  • Gordon - we try to bring order to the inner world by beginning with activity in the outer one. This is exactly the opposite of what the Bible teaches us, what the great saints have shown us, and what our dismal spiritual experiences regularly prove to us.
  • As Thomas Kelly says, "We are trying to be several selves at once, without all our selves being organized by a single, mastering Life within us."
  • Again he says, "Life is meant to be lived from a Centre, a divine Centre. Each one of us can live such a life of amazing power and peace and serenity, of integration and confidence and simplified multiplicity, on one condition – that is, if we really want to."
And that is the condition with which we must finally deal. Do we really want order within our private worlds? Again, do we want it?
  • Then retreat into the silent centre where time can be ordered by priorities, where the mind can be tuned to discover God's good, acceptable and perfect will.
